LAWS: Self-Governance

Privacy policy

Effective October 22, 2026

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking, and nothing sold. The AI sees only the rule you speak and any proof you choose to send. Everything else stays on your devices.

Who we are

LAWS: Self-Governance (“LAWS”) is an iPhone app, with a companion Mac app, made by an independent developer. In this policy, “we” means the developer of LAWS. You can reach us at the contact address in § 11.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t ask you to create an account, and we don’t ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • We don’t show ads.
  • We don’t track you across apps or websites, and we don’t use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
  • We don’t sell or rent your data to anyone.

What is sent to the AI

When you speak a rule, Apple’s speech recognition transcribes it on your device. Only two kinds of things ever leave your phone for the AI:

  • The text of your rule, so the AI can write it as a law.
  • A proof photo, or still frames from a proof video, but only when you choose to submit one, so the AI can judge whether the law was kept.

These go through LAWS’s own server, which runs on Cloudflare, to Anthropic’s Claude API. LAWS does not store them. Anthropic handles them under its API terms, which you can read at anthropic.com/legal.

Health data is never sent to the AI. Neither is your location, your place visits or your Screen Time choices.

What our server sees

Each request to our server includes a random device identifier created by the app. It isn’t linked to your name, Apple ID or any other identity. The server uses it only to keep a daily count of requests so that one device can’t overload the service. The count is short-lived and is discarded automatically.

Like any internet service, requests travel through Cloudflare’s network, which necessarily handles your IP address in order to deliver them. LAWS does not keep IP addresses.

What stays on your device

The following is read only on your iPhone, only to check whether your laws have been kept, and is never sent to us or to the AI:

  • Screen Time. The apps you choose to lock are selected with Apple’s Screen Time picker. Apple gives LAWS anonymous tokens for them, so LAWS can lock those apps without seeing your app-usage history.
  • Apple Health. Workouts and activity, including data written by Apple Watch, Strava, Garmin or Whoop. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared.
  • Location and places. The places you name and whether you’re at them.
  • Whoop data, if you connect Whoop (see § 6).

Whoop

Connecting Whoop is optional. If you do, LAWS uses Whoop’s official API, with your permission, to read your strain, recovery and related data. It uses that data only to check your laws, and keeps it on your device. You can disconnect Whoop at any time in LAWS Settings, or revoke access from your Whoop account.

iCloud backup and LAWS for Mac

If you turn it on, LAWS backs up your laws, and LAWS for Mac records your work time, in your own private iCloud database. That database belongs to your Apple account. The developer of LAWS cannot read it. Apple stores it under Apple’s iCloud terms.

Deleting your data

Because there is no account and we keep no copy, deleting is entirely in your hands:

  • Delete the app to remove everything stored on your iPhone (and delete LAWS for Mac to do the same on your Mac).
  • Delete the iCloud backup in iOS Settings: tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage (or Storage), then LAWS.
  • Disconnect Whoop in LAWS Settings or from your Whoop account.

Children

LAWS is designed for people governing themselves, not for monitoring or controlling anyone else. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how LAWS handles data, we’ll update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect.
